We are Arctic

“We are Arctic” pairs women’s traditional Inuit tattoos with cotton grass (an important plant used by the Inuit as wicks for oil lamps). Cotton grass of the arctic tundra is also a source for food for migrating caribou and snow geese, food for the heath butterfly and the black grouse. On the back of this piece I’ve included the arctic fox. With the loss of snow and ice in the region due to climate changes, arctic fox no longer blend with their environment and have become easier prey to wolves, polar bear, large birds of prey, and the red fox.
