Heather K. Sisk

For me sculpture requires quieting the mind. I am attempting to express the nature of the individual, while also letting go of my preconceptions about what I think I “know” about form. I try to be witness to the interior.

I am drawn to themes of witness, connection and transformation. How are we in relationship with one another, and our natural and cultural environments? In my portraits, I strive to capture true likeness inhabited by interior emotion, where the individual becomes less of an object, and engages the viewer back through reaction or intention. I also use portraits and the human form as my canvas for exploring spiritual and cultural issues through series designed for exhibition.

I studied at the Art Students League in NYC under Jonathan Shahn and Barney Hodes from 2008 – 2015. I started exhibiting my sculpture in 2012.
